Night of a Thousand Thoughts

Written for:  Imaginary Gardens With Real Toads:  “Of Insomnia and Sleep”  (posted by Sanaa)

Write a poem about insomnia.

To bed per chance to sleep,
then into your head it creeps.
What if, what if not,
tangling your brain into a knot.
If catastrophe comes in mid-night,
sleeplessness will allow for fright.
You turn left, you turn right, still bereft
of shuteye. You try to stretch
your legs out straight, and keep still.
Deep breathing, use your will.
Alas, no quieting noise in your head.
Per chance to sleep? Not in your bed.

This is incredibly potent .. I like how you describe the dilemma of the human brain with “If catastrophe comes in mid-night,sleeplessness will allow for fright.” Beautifully rendered. Thank you so much for participating.💜
