The Nest

Written for:  The Sunday Whirl, Wordle #296

Words:  key, hollow, split, thrum, court, lethal, glass, fight, strip, deck, stay, row

Thought it was hollow,
by the split on its
trunk. Heard a thrum.
My glass fell out of
my hand and struck
the side of the deck
peeling off a strip of wood.
There was a nest
of yellow jackets,
and they were angry,
and lethal. Rather than
stay and fight them–
a row they were certain
to win–I fled into
the courtyard, grabbed
my key, and ducked
into my house.

About purplepeninportland

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are in the process of returning to New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.
