Telephone Wins

Written for:  Poetic Asides April 2017 Challenge – Day 15
For today’s prompt, write a “one time” poem. This poem could be about a once in a lifetime experience. Or it could be about something a person wants to try just one time (good or bad). Or take it where you will–as always.

You have won a Caribbean cruise.
(there was no way I could lose)
You have been selected for a grant.
(me and every uncle and aunt)
You are our 500th customer, you won a giraffe.
(don’t make me laugh)
Publisher’s Clearing House calling, you won.
(I didn’t enter; I’m stunned)

Once in my life, it would be nice
to get something for nothing.

About purplepeninportland

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are in the process of returning to New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.
