Disaster

For this challenge, I have selected a few distinctive words from each poem. Use a minimum of THREE words (or derivatives) in a new poem on a subject of your choice.

The List
neglect
country
monuments
tatter
holy
gyre
artifice
drowsy

anarchy
centre (center)
tide
waste
desert
pitiless
ceremony
innocence

Anarchy finds a center
when ceremony celebrates
a ruler,  holier-than-thou,
who will lay waste
to country, bleed innocents,
be pitiless, and neglect tide
of opposition with artifice
and neglect. A country in tatters
where benefits gyre to those not
in need, will deny meaning
to our monuments, scattering
their ashes on what will become
an uninhabitable desert.

About purplepeninportland

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are in the process of returning to New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.

A bleak outlook indeed.. Yeats forecasts seem to be quite realistic in our times, and his words add resonance to your view.

Nicely written, Sarah. Congratulations on using all the words. The seemed to fit our present national situation. I believe that we have reached an apex in civilization which is on the steepest decline in the history of civilized people. Only ISIS is faster at nation destruction (meaning that phrase to be the opposite of ‘nation building’).
