Adjustments

Written for:  Poets United Midweek Motif~Change

“Be the change you want to see in the world.”—Mahatma Gandhi

A hard adjustment, accepting change,
to meet face to face, eye to eye.
Resistant are we to re-arrange
familiar lives, or to say goodbyes.
In life’s many bags of tricks and surprises,
there is often no time to ruminate
about our next move, or to ponder the whys.
Too fast for a new seed to germinate.
Yet change can become an adventure,
and we explorers of our new days.
Who might we meet if we did not venture
into unknown waters and different ways.

The challenge is to seize up the new;
if you cannot digest it, protest what’s askew.

About purplepeninportland

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are in the process of returning to New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.

    I definitely agree with your final couplet. When we cannot digest something which is thrust upon us, we must indeed protest what is askew….each in our own way.
