Word for Today: Path
Paths criss-crossed, and at times,
circled back around. Took some
chances, many on impulse,
but life was never dull–or not
for long. In my play, I gathered
scenes. Some were pleasant,
others not. Each taught me a lesson,
necessary to the act in order
for the play to move forward.
Now, I react. Grew up in a time
of racial unrest, war, and women
not equal to men. Through
the years, a war ended, racial
tensions seemed to be fading,
and women fought for equality.
Paths criss-crossed, and circled
back around. Bigotry is at
an all time high, wars never
end, and women are still fighting.
We cannot keep spinning around,
landing back at our beginnings. It is
dizzying. It is not progress.
