Trust

Written for:  Imaginary Gardens With Real Toads: Out of Standard, “Future/Tense”

On November 8th, the next President of the United States was selected by the electoral college. This choice has sparked uncertainty in many of us. And look, many of us have feelings about this. We are future/tense. Bringing me to today’s prompt theme:

Future/tense

That’s it. You get to interpret and write to this theme any way you choose. You don’t have to make this about politics, if you’re tuckered out on the topic. Or you can make it all about politics if post election anxiety has got a hold of your pen.

Trust no one
sounds harsh–
a murder mystery.
Politically speaking,
is there anyone
that you trust?
Future is not limited
to merely our own choices.
Our voices are barely audible.
Decisions doled out
by various government branches
give us poor chances
to have a say. Weigh options.
Blind faith, for me, is not
of them.

About purplepeninportland

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are in the process of returning to New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.

I like where the prompt took you and how you used word play as a platform for some important topics. At the center, and place is the middle of the is your line about how the future is not limited to our own choices, which was very effective for me. Thanks for posting to the out of standard!

  3. I fear the upcoming reign of oligarchy will not be able to do a thing to earn my trust. Great poetic expression of the uncertainty we find ourselves in.
