The Ends Justify The Means

Written for:  Poetic Asides November 2016 Chapbook Challenge – Day 20
Pick a popular saying, make it the title of your poem, and then, write your poem.

Ends justify the means
many politicians think.
Tell folks what they want to hear
as long as you win election.

Many politicians think
you can promise people the world
as long as you win election.
Once in power, they do as they please.

You can promise people the world
by sounding tough, yet sincere.
Once in power, they do as they please.
Popular vote is moot in the end.

About purplepeninportland

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are in the process of returning to New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.
