Three Cities

Written for:  Imaginary Gardens With Real Toads:  Travel: Get Listed for August
This month, the twist on the list is this: pick *at least* 3 cities / locations that you have visited, want to visit, or wish you never had. Can be fact or fiction. Why were/are you there? What did you do / are you doing there? Are they, or how are they connected?

Cape May

Gingerbread in seaside
colors–houses and inns
of Cape May, New Jersey.
From beach and boardwalk
to charming restaurants,
and shops. Nights made
of music, and sun-warmed
people. Chew a piece
of pastel saltwater taffy,
or let a square of chocolate
fudge melt on your tongue.
No transportation needed, but
for fun with friends, rent
a bicycle built for four.

Carmel-By-The-Sea, California

Even the name is tasty. Point Lobos
offers a vista of California’s
coast–puts you in awe of natural
beauty. Visit art galleries,
dine in courtyards, and explore
a village of European-style
shops and restaurants. Stand
on sand at sunset, and you will
not notice anyone else;  you will  be
mesmerized by red sun sinking
into the ocean.

New Orleans, Louisiana

In French Quarter, eat beignets
with powdered sugar, and chickory-
infused coffee. Love jazz,
and spicy food? Well, this is
your kind of place. Sit, and
sip a pink hurricane, listen
to the great horns of Bourbon Street.
Have a muffuletta, some Cajun chicken
or Creole shrimp. Walk over to
Jackson Square Park, have a caricature
drawn. Wait for cool weather,
unless you fancy hellish humidity.
It would be a pity if you do not
get to visit this queen of cities.

About purplepeninportland

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are in the process of returning to New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.
