Write a poem giving yourself or someone else a birthday gift
on a specific birthday.
I was turning fifty–some years ago–
and my sister found a perfect
gift for a woman distracted from life
by her own imagination. Reality
or Wonderland? She came through,
knew what to do. I look at her
choice every day. On my desk,
it pulls me away from unpleasant
thoughts where I sometimes stray.
On a pedestal, a green face grins
at me. Michigan J. Frog. Alas,
he does not sing for me.
