Protest

Written for:  The Sunday Whirl, Wordle #250

Words: mass, flow, road, bit, news, after, rant, map, show, trance, chant, block

After the rant,
chanting burst forth
on every block.
Masses put up
a show of force. Energy
flowed down roads,
spilled onto street corners,
an echo of the sixties.
Picked up by national evening
news, the march trekked
onward, filling the country’s
map with thousands
of blue pins denoting
solidarity. “Do Your Bit”
emblazoned on signs,
awakened increasing numbers
of people from their trancelike
states–after the rant,
before it was too late.

About purplepeninportland

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are in the process of returning to New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.

With the injustices of the world you would think there would be more protests..the trance is like a mass stupor at times..either that or perhaps we feel defeated before we even start..a clever and thought provoking poem
