Neighbors in driveways wash their cars
hoping torrential rains have abated.
Here comes that white truck, with ice cream bars.
Children queue up, long have they waited.
Japanese maple is growing new hair,
while pink apple blossoms brighten a tree.
Querulous bluejays perch nearby and scare
two golden finches who quickly flee.
Lovers discover each other’s charms
as they sit on green benches in parks.
Dappled by sunlight on their forearms,
they listen to the song of a lark.
Outdoor life has an amber cast.
How lovely to dream that spring will last.
