Different Wounds

Written for:  Poets United Midweek Motif~Recovery/Healing

Broken bones can be knit
together. Wounds
may be stitched,
recovery slow
and steady.
You are never
ready for the death
of someone close
to you. There is no
recovery, but they say,
in time, there is healing.

About purplepeninportland

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are in the process of returning to New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.

Pow! The difference between a broken bone or surgery and loss to death is vast, as is the difference between healing and recovery that your poem makes clear (in fewer words than this comment). No knit, no stitch there. Sigh.

This is such a poignant piece.. indeed it takes a lot of time to heal when faced with a terrible loss.
    Beautifully penned.

Yes true recovery is perhaps an impossible goal…whatever the experience it changes us..healing is a far wiser goal…a thoughtful and skilfully written poem

De, this is profound really! After a death, there certainly IS no recovery….but yes, healing can come in time. So much said in few words -> perfect!
