Living Color

Zig-zag, zesty southwest patterns
paint pillows, ramble `cross rugs,
complement sculpted vases
of intricate Indian design.  Puzzle-
pieced giraffes, wooden elephants,
camels, and proudly posed lion
kings inhabit top cover
of an antique ice chest.  Curled
on couch, I survey my room
of living.  Why, I wonder,
does this collection of lines,
shapes, and vivid colors,
comfort me?  Is it a swan song
to wilder days, youthful ways,
traveling backwards in arm
chair adventures?  Sitting
here writing, I turn, pause
to peer at backyard of wild grasses,
hummingbirds flitting here to there,
and water rippling down rock.  I think
my home provides a formula,
tested and proven to rocket
my imagination to soaring
heights of seated journeys.

A strong sense of belonging to a place is one of the delights of life. You have summed up yours beautifully.
